Dr. Spurling’s book It Is Time To Be Bully Free! has been inspirational in providing schools in TN and NC direction in developing, establishing and implementing successful anti-bullying programs. Based on his research and dissertation “The Bully Free School Zone Character Education Program: A Study of Impact at Five Western North Carolina Middle Schools.” Dr. Spurling through his presentations encourages all teachers, school leaders, and parents to work together in “Building a Community from Within.” With the overall objective to not tolerate bullying behavior of any kind, dealing with it effectively while being... Active, Alert, and Involved in the lives of each student on a daily and consistent basis.
The Author has worked 24 years with the Mitchell County Schools in NC. During that time he has served as a teacher, coach, assistant principal, principal, Career-Technical Education Director and now as assistant superintendent of schools. He also is an adjunct instructor at ETSU in Johnson City, TN with the Educational Leadership Department. He resides in Spruce Pine, NC with his wife Felicia a media specialist with the Mitchell County Schools and their two children Madison (11) and Max (8).
